Outreach Counselling Services
My Friend's House offers supportive counselling to women who have been abused or are currently in an abusive relationship. Counselling sessions focus on how their experiences of abuse affect their daily life.
All services provided by My Friend's House are women-positive, women-centered, free and confidential. Counsellors are sensitive to cultural and sexual diversity.
In this framework, the Outreach Worker can also provide information, resources and referrals for housing, legal, financial, parenting, and employment matters.
This is not a crisis service.
Once you have called to make an appointment, an outreach counsellor will call you back to set up a one-to-one appointment. If you are unable to travel to Collingwood, the outreach counsellor may be able to meet with you in your community.
In outreach counselling meetings women talk about many different things including:
- What is abuse?
- How to stay safe
- How to manage emotions
- Developing self-awareness
- Increasing self-esteem
- Life strategies
- Making decisions and goal setting
