What if there isn't any room?
You will be asked if you are in a safe place right now. If you say no - every effort will be made to get you to My Friend's House as quickly and as safely as possible. We will figure out the room situation later. What is important is that you and your kids are safe.
If My Friend's House happens to be full, we will find you another place to stay until room is available. Don't worry, if you don't have a vehicle, we do have the resources to pick you up and get you where you need to be.
Can I come and just talk to someone?
Yes. Call first to get directions. We have counselors available 24 hours a day. On the phone or in person there is always someone to speak to.
How do I get there - I don't have a car?
We can help you get to My Friend's House or depending on your situation, we may be able to come and see you. Just call and ask.
Do I need an appointment?
It is a good idea to make an appointment but if you need to be safe just come. We are here for you.
Where are you?
We do not publish our address for many reasons. When you call, we will give you directions.
Do I have to pay?
No. Service is not based on your ability to pay. My Friend's House receives funding from the government and from donors to provide assistance.
Can I bring my kids?
Of course. We have a Child and Youth Worker who will provide activities for your kids and provide the necessary support to help them feel comfortable.
How do I know it is really safe?
The staff at My Friend's House follow very strict security procedures and we have an alarm system that includes security cameras. It is likely one of the safest places you will ever be in.
How long can I stay?
My Friend's House has a general guideline of two months but if you need to stay longer that is okay too.
Am I allowed to go out?
Yes. Staying in touch with the people who support you is important. We have some procedures in place to make sure you are safe but you can come and go as you please.
(Note: Your privacy and safety is protected when you call us. Our telephones are not equipped with Call Display for incoming calls. Our outgoing calls are blocked from Call Display telephones. And our phone number will not appear on your phone bill)
